It’s hard to know what to share here. Mainly, because we don’t “know the plan”! I’m sure we are not the only ones to have an event completely take us by surprise!?! In this case, we’re just taking it step by step and one day at a time. We know it will come out ‘all right’, maybe even great! But, the path to ‘all right’ or great is a complete mystery as to how to get there! We will start with the facts…
Rebuilding: we have decided not to rebuild as a dairy operation for multiple reasons. We plan to rebuild our shop and fix our straw shed. That’s what we know thus far.
Our cows: As of this week, we have now sold all of our cows and heifers. As we keep walking this post tornado journey, selling the cows and heifers just seemed to make the most sense. It has been a relief and sad at the same time. Cows have always been a part of our life. Working with cows has taught us many invaluable skills and been a huge part of who we are as a family. Yet we know as great as cows have been to our family, we are held by a mighty God, who must have an even better plan!
What we are doing: We are doing the tasks in front of us. Fixing equipment, collecting information for insurance, hauling manure, sorting through prior obligations, making numerous phone calls and receiving just as many phone calls, maintaining what we have, yet moving forward to the unknown future as sensibly as we can, and most importantly just being a family.
As we address the past and look forward to the future, we don’t want to miss out on the present and all the blessings right in front of us!
